September 30, 2020

The seventh annual meeting of the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF), hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, has already started with concurrent sessions and will be concluded with plenary sessions on October 7 - 8.

ICEF is attended by the world’s leading experts from industry, academia, and government, and aims to encourage discussion and cooperation on addressing climate change issues through the promotion and acceleration of innovation in the areas of energy and the environment. The forum was established on the initiative of Japan’s ex-Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, and its annual meeting has been held in Japan since 2014.

The overall theme of this year is ‘Action toward “Beyond Zero” emissions society in light of COVID-19; with a focus on gender equality’. In the fallout of the COVID-19, how could we realize “Zero Emission Society” and go “Beyond Zero Emission Society”, i.e. reduce CO2 already emitted in the air? A variety of topics will be discussed adding perspective of how women’s contribution could catapult current initiatives.

In addition, Yoshino Akira, President of Consortium for Lithium Ion Battery Technology and Evaluation Center (LIBTEC), who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry last year, will also be on stage at the "Road to Beyond Zero" session on October 8.

Session videos will also be available only for the registered participants on demand.
