Ceremony Held to Commence Operation of Phase2 of Smart Community Demonstration Project in Slovenia

NEDO and Hitachi, Ltd. (Hitachi) have been moving forward with the second phase of the demonstration project in Slovenia, along with Ministry of Economic Development and Technology of Slovenia and Ministry of Infrastructure of Slovenia and a state-owned electricity transmission company, ELES, d.o.o. (ELES). And a ceremony to celebrate its commencement of demonstration operation was held online on November 4, connecting Tokyo with Ljubljana city, the capital of Slovenia.

This second phase of the demonstration operation is designed to link a cloud-based Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS), storage batteries, and BEMS on the consumers’ premises to verify islanding (autonomous operation during grid failure), voltage dips mitigation measures, and ancillary services (provision of flexibility to electricity transmission system operators). At the same time, the project aims to establish an energy service business for large-scale power consumers and electricity power retailers utilizing the systems.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Počivalšek, Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Mr. Mihelič, State Secretary of Ministry of Infrastructure, Mr. Matsushima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Ishizuka, NEDO Chairman, and Mr. Mervar, CEO of ELES, d.o.o., Mr. Nagano, Senior Vice President and Executive Officer of Hitachi and many others from Japan.
