NEDO Co-hosts Symposium on Lightweight Transportation Equipment for a Sustainable Society: Trends and Challenges in the Use of Multi-materials

January 20, 2022

On December 3, 2021, NEDO and Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun co-hosted a symposium on NEDO’s Research and Development of Innovative Structural Materials project. The symposium, titled Lightweight Transportation Equipment for a Sustainable Society: Trends and Challenges in the Use of Multi-materials, took place at the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) Japan Advanced Materials Technology Exhibition 2021 held at Tokyo Big Sight.

Following a keynote speech provided by Mr. SUGIURA Kozo of Topia Co., Ltd. titled “Lightweight Automobile Development from the Viewpoint of Prototype Technology,” the symposium included an overview of the NEDO project and presentations were made on related topics such as design technology for multi-material automobile bodies, life cycle assessment, project results and recent trends/prospects in the field of lightweight materials, such as aluminum and carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers.

In addition, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) introduced its Next Generation Synchrotron Radiation Facility project.

The symposium was archived for on demand streaming from December 6 to 10, and, including those who joined the symposium in person, was attended by many people.
