11th NEDO-CDTI Joint Workshop Held in Yamanashi

On January 24, 2023, NEDO held a joint workshop with the Spanish government’s Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI). Approximately 80 people attended this year’s workshop whose theme was “Technologies for Hydrogen Valleys in Spain and Japan-Regional H2 Value Chain.” Following opening remarks provided by NEDO Chairman ISHIZUKA Hiroaki, His Excellency, Mr. Fidel SENDAGORTA, Ambassador of Spain to Japan, and CDTI Director-General Javier PONCE, presentations were made on technology trends and recent activities undertaken by companies and research institutions in Japan and Spain.

At the opening of the workshop, NEDO Chairman Ishizuka introduced recent NEDO activities relevant to the workshop theme and described NEDO’s cooperative relationship with CDTI through the Japan-Spain Innovation Program (JSIP) and the series of joint workshops. During closing remarks, NEDO Executive Director WADA Takashi expressed his appreciation to the companies and other stakeholders participating in the workshop for creating a valuable opportunity to better understand the efforts of both countries to realize a “hydrogen society.”

At the conclusion of the workshop, 15 Japanese and 9 Spanish companies participated in a matching session to promote the exploration of business opportunities.　

On January 25, the day following the workshop, NEDO and CDTI representatives were joined by workshop speakers for a tour of the Komekurayama solar power station, the Yume Solar Kan Yamanashi facility, and the University of Yamanashi’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Nanomaterials Center where R&D related to realizing a hydrogen society is taking place on power-to-gas systems and hydrogen fuel cells.
