Grand Opening Held in Malaysia for the World's Largest Microalgae Production Facility

April 19, 2023

On April 4, CHITOSE Group held a grand opening in Malaysia for the world's largest facility of microalgae production "CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central (C4)" *1. The project is funded by NEDO through "Development of Production Technologies for Biojet Fuels / Development of Microalgae Base Technology project".
In this project, cultivation demonstration on microalgae as a source of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) will be conducted to establish a stable mass cultivation technology.
Microalgae production on a scale of 5 hectares utilizing CO2 emitted from the industrial sector is the world's first attempt.
The grand opening was attended by Mr. TAKAHASHI Katsuhiko, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, and many guests from the State Government of Sarawak, Japanese ministries and government offices, and other organizations.
NEDO Executive Director YUMITORI Shuji addressed that "The development of this project will lead to ensuring the sustainability of society and industry by directly reducing CO2 emissions from thermal power plants through microalgal CO2 absorption and indirectly reducing CO2 emissions through the replacement of fossil resources with microalgal biomass. "
