NEDO Holds Public Event to Present the Results of Development of Common Fundamental Technology for Accelerating AI Chip Development Project

April 5, 2023

On March 22, 2023, NEDO held a public event at the University of Tokyo to present the results of the Development of Common Fundamental Technology for Accelerating AI Chip Development project.

Developing AI chips requires advanced skills and expensive design tools that are significant obstacles to overcome when small- and medium-sized enterprises and venture businesses begin to develop AI chips. Therefore, the AI Chip Design Center (AIDC) was established as part of the project to provide businesses with development environments for design, verification, and evaluation as well as fundamental technologies that accelerate AI chip development.

In addition to the oral presentations of the technical results, a poster session was held with demos and videos, and the event was successful and well received by 150 participants.

NEDO Executive Director NISHIMURA Tomoyasu extended his gratitude to the guest speaker from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as well as to the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the University of Tokyo for their cooperation in organizing the event, and delivered his closing address hoping that the reported results will improve the competitive strength of AI chips developed in Japan.

A detailed explanation about the beginning of full-scale operation of the AIDC from April was also given to the audience at the event.
