Ceremony Held to Commence Demonstration Operation of Optimized Performance Enabling Network for Volt/Var(Q) (OPENVQ) of Power Transmission Network in Thailand

May 8, 2023

NEDO and the Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Thailand (MoEN) have commenced the demonstration operation of Optimized Performance Enabling Network for Volt/var (Q) (OPENVQ) in Thailand, in collaboration with Hitachi, Ltd. (Hitachi) and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). And an opening ceremony was held in Nonthaburi province, Thailand on April 26.
This demonstration project aims to reduce CO2 emissions by introducing OPENVQ, an online-based optimal voltage/ reactive power control system, to the power transmission system owned by EGAT in northeastern Thailand and curbing transmission loss through more advanced and more efficient operation of the electric power system.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Somboon Nhookeaw, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MoEN, Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of EGAT, H.E. Mr. NASHIDA Kazuya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Thailand, NEDO Executive Director YUMITORI Shuji, and Mr. NAGANO Katsuya, Senior Vice President and Executive Officer of Hitachi, as well as many other concerned parties.
