January 7, 2026
On January 6, 2026, NEDO co-hosted the “Indonesia-Japan Workshop on New Energy and Industrial Technology” together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (MoHEST), the Republic of Indonesia.
Under the leadership of MoHEST, Indonesia is pursuing initiatives to raise the quality of research activities nationwide and to build a strong innovation ecosystem. In parallel, the country is promoting global partnerships to achieve the long-term goals set out in its National Research Master Plan (RIRN 2017–2045).
These expectations for Indonesia’s industrial transformation closely align with NEDO’s initiatives, reinforcing strong interest in further collaboration through joint research activities. Against this backdrop, NEDO and MoHEST organized this workshop to introduce NEDO’s programs and activities to Indonesian universities and industry stakeholders, while exploring new opportunities for cooperation between Japan and Indonesia in the fields of research and innovation.
The workshop opened with welcoming remarks by H.E. Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the Republic of Indonesia. In the keynote address, Dr. KISHIMOTO Kikuo, Executive Director of NEDO, introduced the activities of NEDO and the Technology and Innovation Strategy Center (TSC).
This was followed by remarks from H.E. Stella Christie, Vice Minister of MoHEST, and a presentation by Dr. Fauzan Adziman, Director General of Research and Development at MoHEST, who spoke on Japan from Indonesia’s perspective and on expectations for cooperation that leverages the respective strengths of both Japan and Indonesia.
In the subsequent sessions, participants were introduced to NEDO’s international programs, followed by panel discussions on “Matching Japanese Technologies with Indonesian Needs” and “Innovative Industrial Technologies”. Through these sessions, active exchanges of views took place among representatives from industry, academia, and government, further strengthening expectations for enhanced cooperation between Japan and Indonesia.
