Ceremony Held in California Commemorating Start of Operations for CHAdeMO High-Power Fast Chargers
June 24, 2019
Since 2015, NEDO has been pursuing a demonstration project which aims to encourage expanded use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S. state of California. On June 17, 2019, a ceremony was held to commemorate the start of operations for 100 kW CHAdeMO high-power fast chargers installed under this project.
The ceremony featured congratulatory remarks by distinguished guests including: Mr. Jared Blumenfeld, Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA); Mr. Lenny Mendonca, Director of the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development; Ms. Patty Monahan, Commissioner of the California Energy Commission; and Mr. Kenji Miura, Consul of the Japanese Consulate General in San Francisco. In addition, companies responsible for carrying out the project, including Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Kanematsu Corporation, and EVgo, introduced the high-power fast chargers designed to greatly reduce charging time for EVs and a smartphone app for EV drivers called DRIVEtheARC developed to allow drivers to make reservations for charging stations.
NEDO Executive Director Takashi Omote, in his opening remarks, voiced his hope that the positive results of this project, together with rapidly evolving EV technologies, would contribute to the diffusion of zero-emission vehicles in California, a state leading the world with its ambitious efforts to address energy and environmental issues.
This project will explore how best to enhance EV user convenience and vehicle cruising ranges through hardware and software analysis on the data obtained in the demonstration.
