NEDO Launches the Demonstration Project for Hybrid Renewable Energy System in Huraymila, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in Partnership with K.A.CARE

New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), in partnership with the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE), a Saudi Arabian government research institution specializing in renewable energy and nuclear power, has launched the Demonstration Project for a Hybrid Renewable Energy System with Battery Storage, in Huraymila, Riyadh Region, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of representatives from both sides. The project is jointly supervised by K.A.CARE and NEDO, with the Saudi Electricity Company and Oriental Consultants Global implementing the fieldwork. The Demonstration equipment is under construction and scheduled to start its demonstration operations by the end of FY2026.
The Kick-Off program included a field tour of the project site in Huraymila on November 5, followed by an official meeting on November 6 at K.A.CARE’s headquarters in Riyadh, which was attended by Mr. MATSUMOTO Shintaro, Executive Director of NEDO, and Eng. Hamad Mohammed Mudij, Head of Renewable Technology Development and Innovation Sector at K.A.CARE.
The project aims to enhance the efficiency of renewable energy management by testing an integrated energy mix that combines solar and wind power with storage systems. This contributes to improving grid stability, optimizing the use of clean energy, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting the reliability of power supply.
This project is considered an important example of Saudi-Japanese cooperation in renewable energy technologies. This demonstration project will contribute to achieving Saudi Vision 2030 and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's net-zero emissions target by 2060, while also supporting the global deployment of Japan’s advanced industrial technologies and creating new business opportunities for Japanese companies.
