In response to the first oil crisis in 1973, the “Sunshine Project” was formulated in 1974 as a research and development plan for “new energy (alternative energy for oil)” technologies in order to mitigate the excessive dependence on oil and solve environmental problems escalated in the energy-intensive society. The Sunshine Project is the first long-term and comprehensive research and development project for new energy technologies in Japan and played a pioneering role in the global development of new energy technologies not limited to Japan.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the "Sunshine Plan" formulated in 1974, so we will hold "Sunshine Project 50 years anniversary symposium".

Event overview

Purpose of the event

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Sunshine Project, Japan’s first long-term, comprehensive research and development project for new energy technology. Since 1974, it has played a pioneering role in the development of renewable energy technology worldwide.
The Sunshine Project 50 Years Anniversary Symposium will be held on June 20th. Experts from Japan’s industrial sector and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have been invited to provide their insights. Topics include the achievements and significance of the Sunshine Project, and leaders at the forefront of technology are scheduled to speak on the future of renewable energy.)
